I drew a portrait of very good friend of mine. She turned 40 this year and to celebrate the occasion, I thought I’d draw her face. The drawing was done in charcoal and graphite on cartridge paper. These were what I had on impulse. I thought this was a simple and direct enough approach, without having to rummage for all sorts of other materials. At that time I just wanted to draw her. What’s remarkable about this lady is her cheerfulness, her laughter and her zest for life. She can make you laugh even when you are at your lowest ebb. Happy Birthday, G!

I am a self-taught designer-maker based in the U.K. I am interested in the inherent beauty of textiles and paper. I describe myself as a peripatetic maker of things, given my number of skills in crafts. Having used paper and textiles longest, these tend to feature on my works quite heavily.
