I have been chosen to exhibit at the local hospital where I work in its annual Winter Arts Exhibition. This is a platform for hospital staff and volunteers who are creatives. Wall space has been given for those short-listed and I feel so honoured to be exhibiting this year.
I have created these works measuring 33 cm x 33 cm in their framed states.
Tropical Dreams
This was based on imaginary flowers that have a tropical vibe to them. I was thinking of creating an arrangement with colours that will (I believe) lift the spirit, especially when in hospital when the winter weather gets dreary.
Coming Together
I was thinking of how a patient’s loved ones come together and literally form an enveloping warmth and source of support in times of illness. Having experienced this personally quite recently, I suppose this was buried in my subconscious. This was how this quilled flower arrangement came about.
Poly
This was based on the idea of the healing power of medicines, whilst at the same time, giving a nod to their potential for unwanted harm. I was thinking of their alluring colours and their promise. Medicines are a paradox.
