As the cold begins to bite here in the UK, I am looking forward to spring time and my garden to be more alive again. My favourite moment is when the vegetation is just starting to change. I’ve sketched many a moment like this, looking at the plants at ground or pot level. At this microcosmic level, one gets to appreciate more of the botanical shapes in relief and contrast. This little study is effectively a sketch of that visual experience. I am using the quilling more freely – simply guided by shapes imprinted in my memory. As the work only measures 18 cm x 18cm, I like the ‘feeling’ captured in this one. I will be working in this scale for a while (I think), as it offers lots of possibilities unbeknownst to me before.
