I am continuing my ‘making’ posts for our local Warwickshire Open Studios 2021. For something totally spontaneous, I thought it would be good to make flower arrangements on some vases. So I’ve come up with these vibrant beauties. I wanted these vases to look rustic, so I scored the paper using a bone folder and then stamped them with colour using a stamping tool. And just as I thought, the end result would be something rough and organic looking. They look positively sun-drenched.
As to the quilling, I am going for super saturated colours, as per usual! I can’t get enough of yellow and magenta at the moment. I always go for the trusted teardrop and spindle shapes. These are so versatile when it comes to flowers.
Below is the second piece in a very verdant green background. These are hand-painted in professional-grade acrylic paints. I love using this medium as they dry so quickly! I also like how acrylic has ‘body’ and so you can create effective brush marks.
The two pieces measure 18 cm x 18 cm without their frames. I intend to frame these in plain white. At the time of writing this post, the frames are being made with care, so I patiently wait.
If you are ever in Coventry and you fancy some art ‘fix’ with COVID restrictions in mind, check out Warwickshire Open Studios 2021. Here is the link to my WOS bio, but it will also lead you to other artists who are exhibiting their works all over Warwickshire throughout 19 June till 04 July.
